FOUNDATIONS
for wood sheds & barns
Foundation:
A secure and level base is required for the assembly of
all sizes of structures. The simplest method is to use patio stones to support the wooden
floor as shown in the drawing below. |
| Alternatively, concrete footings may
be used. In situations where ground slopes, pier blocks can be used. If you plan to mount
the structure on a concrete slab, a floor is not required. Sheds ordered with no wood floor and to be installed on existing concrete
pad will not be guaranteed against water entering shed underneath pressure treated sill
plate. |

1. Patio
Stone Foundation (floor required) |
In most instances patio stones may be used as
a foundation.
The stones are typically positioned so that
the 2 x 6 pressure treated runners will sit on top of them.
Once the stones are positioned, the floor is
placed on top of them and leveled with shims or blocks.
- In situations where the ground slopes, pier blocks can be
used (available at any building supply store).
2. Concrete Pad
| This type of foundation is recommended if the
shed is to be used without a wood floor. In this case the walls are mounted directly to
the concrete. A pressure-treated bottom sillplate is provided to place on the concrete.
The size of the pad should at least be equivalent to the outside measurement of the shed. |
